Kendal Museum has a special Wainwright Exhibition devoted to the work of the great Lake District author and the Brewery Arts Centre features film screenings, plays and live comedy.
Walkers, Cyclists, Kayakers
Whichever way you want to actively explore and enjoy Wainwright’s beloved Lake District, we will help to make it as easy as possible. For those of you who want to be up and out early, just let us know the night before and we will happily cook you an ‘early’ breakfast – and fill your flasks while you eat it!
If you are going to be back late and just want to relax with a ‘take away’, please ring us and we will provide a table/crockery/ cutlery etc in the breakfast room for you. Then you can just collapse onto our comfy sofas or into bed!.
We are close to the Dales Way and are ideally situated for a one or two night stop near the start (or end) of your adventure. We will pick you up from your chosen break point at the end of your day, and drop you off there the following morning to continue on your way. Our situation is close, so walkers often stay two nights, with breaks near Staveley/Burneside and Lowgill, as fits their itinerary.
We will provide information on :-
- Local weather
- Public transport
- Local walking routes
- Local cycle routes
- Local rescue services
We can hang up wet clothes and wet suits and dry muddy boots in our cellars. We have ample secure storage for cycles and can even accommodate a few kayaks. The Kent is one of the fastest flowing rivers in England but there are also gentler stretches around Kendal and, of course, there are the Lakes themselves. Wainwright House is the perfect base for experienced kayakers and those who want to try it for the first time.
